Welcome to Philp’s Fine Food.

Hi!  I’m Rachel Philp, a chef & caterer born and bred in the Lincolnshire Fens.  I am proud of my roots and will always have an affinity with the Fens, but when I hit the big “40” I developed a yearning to relocate to the Moray coast.  It had been a lifelong dream of mine to run a small shop stocked to the brim with luxury foods alongside my home cooking.  This dream finally became a reality in September 2014 when I found a former bakery shop on Forres High Street, perfect for my needs, and Philp’s Fine Food was born!  Running a High Street store, however, can be a rocky business and unfortunately in December 2015 I made the painful decision to close the shop and concentrate 100% on my catering business.  The shop introduced me to some wonderful people though, new suppliers and clients, many of whom have become friends.  My catering business continues to grow from strength to strength and I now spend Monday to Friday running “Fresh Horizons” cafe in the Horizon Scotland building on Forres Enterprise Park so why not pop along for a coffee?

Food is my passion; sourcing, cooking, sharing and above all eating.  I am happiest when I can cook for people.  Watching someone’s face light up as they try a new ingredient or dish is priceless and making people happy makes me happy.  My cooking style evokes childhood memories of home cooking, good, honest and wholesome food, fine ingredients cooked well.

Now firmly rooted in Moray, I have become more aware of the great abundance of food around every corner. I cook using locally sourced ingredients, often with a Mediterranean twist!  I am a frequent visitor to Menorca and this is often reflected in my cooking; what could be more Medierranean than catch of the day, cooked simply with freshly harvested local vegetables followed by cheese straight from the dairy. It’s a dinner party waiting to happen!
